School Photos at About a Boy ~July Prima BAP

The August 1st challenge is up at About A Boy!   We would like you to create a layout using a school age picture of your son, nephew, hubby, boyfriend, dad..........well you get the picture.  As long as its a boy, we dont care who it is!  If your child is not school age than you can use a daycare photo or maybe playgroup or playground photo or even a photo of him as a newborn, you know the ones we pay a million dollars for at the hospital.

This is my son's 6th grade photo.  He even said I could put flowers on this LO!  He is handling his role as my male model very well, I think.  I allowed him some creative input and by involving him in my "process" he remains willing to pose for pictures.

I did  base this sketch off of the July Prima BAP.  The sketch is at the bottom of this post.

Simple Sketches Design Team

I applied for a design team position at a sketch challenge blog called Simple Sketches.  Simple Sketches is run by Melissa Williams and the sketches are created by her.  I had to submit my version of this fantastic sketch:

This was a fun sketch.  Yes, I used the Big Bang Theory reference as my title.  Just don't let this cat fool you.  He is not "soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur," he is actually wild, crazy kitty.  It took me two years to get two photos of the two of us!

Watch for upcoming posts for the challenges to begin!

G45 Bohemian Bazaar ATC House

I've heard that when you are having a home built that it is guaranteed to take forever!  It took me forever to build my ATC house.  I was inspired by Mary Jane Chadbourne.  She was offering an ATC house class, but I didn't have the extra money for a class at the time.  We just returned from vacation!

But I needed a place to store my ATCs.  We have been trading ATCs over at Scraps of Darkness/Elegance (depending on what side of the house you live on).  And I had just received my July kit,  Gypsy Summer.  The kit was filled with Graphic 45's Bohemian Bazaar papers.

I built my house from scratch.  I did not follow any one's "house plans."  All mistakes are my own and I take full responsibility for them.

I began with an utility knife, heavy chipboard and a hot glue gun.

I had to modify things as I went along, but this was the basic design.  It's pretty long, but I plan on collecting many, MANY ATCs.

I don't remember when I started this project.  I'm not sure how many hours I have put into my ATC house.  I'm sure that I worked on this for a week straight and I am a SAHM.

Here's the outcome:

Thanks for taking a look.  I'd appreciate any comments!

Red, White and Bue Challenges!

blueI decided to play at two challenges, which I combined.  This is for S.W.A.T.'s Red, White, and Blue Challenge and is also for Scrap Our Stash's Red, White and Blue challenge!

The rules for SOS were a bit more specific:
Create a LAYOUT (any theme) using your stash of RED WHITE and BLUE
papers and embellies.
Kraft is the ONLY other color you can use with these colors.
and....
you MUST include (3) or more Pre-made STAR embellishments of your choice!
(Brads, buttons, eyelets, cardstock stickers, chipboard, etc)

Here is what I made.

I did not use the kraft paper that SOS allowed because S.W.A.T. did not mention using any other colors.  My pre-made star embellishments are old Rusty Pickle chipboard, clear Heidi Swapp Ghost shapes, which I stamped so that it could be seen; a rustic star brad that I colored dark blue with Stazon, and two Basic Grey chippies.

FRIDAY GIVEAWAY: PINK PAISLEE

OOhh, I would love to win this!  Keep your fingers crossed for me, please!  This is the Hope Chest collection from Pink Paislee.

Photo Tour

While we were on vacation in South Carolina, I wanted to take a walking photo tour of Charleston.  Like every scrapbooker, I was hoping for some great photos to bring home.  I didn't expect my son to want to join me.  I gave him my little point and shoot Sony, and he enjoyed the first hour.  He learned how to use puddles to take reflective pictures, how to hide cars, and how to change perspective.

I am entering this into the July Blue Fern Studios sketch challenge.  Here is the monthly sketch:

I have also decided to enter this in the Lindy's Stamp Gang Color Challenge and apply for the design team.  A girl has got to try!  Here is the inspiration board for the challenge:

The requirement is to use minimum of two of these colors and neutrals such as gray and black were permitted!  My Lindy's Stamp Gang collection is pretty small at the moment, but I hope it grows.  They have some fabulous products!  I used these Starburst sprays: Poincianna Red Flame, Breakfast Club Blue,  and Gregarious Grey.  I also used two of the Magicals: Silent Night Silver and Rudolph's Nose Red.

Ocean or Pool?

July 15 is here and the mid-month challenge is  now open at About A Boy!

July 15 Challenge-Catch the Wave!

Hello everyone, its time for our mid month challenge.  Its mid summer and its hot so its time to take a dip in the pool.  For this chalelnge we want you to catch the wave and create a layout showcasing water in some way.

That's the rule.  Water!  How easy!  Please play along, following the rules.

Here is my LO for the challenge.

I had so much fun using the Dylusions stamps on a transparency sheet and painting them with alcohol inks.

About my LO:  We took a fabulous vacation to the Isle of Palms in South Carolina and we stayed a block and a half from the beach.  The rental house had a pool and this is where my son chose to do his swimming. He didn't get into the ocean until he and his dad fell off their jet ski!  I will let them watch Jaws before going to the ocean again!

ATC Challenge at Lift Summer Crafts

I was wanting to play along with the ATC challenge at Lift Summer Crafts.  I was glad that I double checked the date, because it ends tomorrow.  So I made myself sit down and make something.  I wasn't sure where to begin.  I pulled out my 3rd Eye stamps.  I love "Olivia."  While I was playing around with her, this song came on:  Time Won't Let Me Go by The Bravery.  Then I knew what to do with "Olivia."  I trapped her behind the hourglass.  We should all remember how precious our time is!

Potential

It's time for the July Punky Scraps Challenge!  Remember, I am hosting this month.  Play along and you could win my prize.

The mood board and the sketch were fun to play with, but as always, I didn't make something that was nice and clean like the sketch.  I guess that's what happens when you're a "more is better kind of girl!"

I loved the shapes in the sketch.  I was going through some OLD chipboard and I found these pieces.  This month's work is made on thick chipboard.  I was planning on using lots of paint and gelatos and mists.

This is what I came up with for this month's challenge.  While I was on vacation, I saw this little caterpillar in a butterfly garden, and Viola! He fit right into my LO!

Now for your reminder about the prize, here's another picture for you:

Tag! You're it!

I am still participating at the tag and ATC trades at Scraps of Darkness.  This tag is serving a dual purpose.  I made it for the trade and the texture challenge.  I made the textured paint out of heavy gel gloss, black acrylic paint and normal sized black glitter.  After I applied the textured paint, I sprinkled copper glitter on top.

Here is an example of the black paint on black paper.

Close up of the tag.

All of tag.

Thanks for taking a look!

Limitless

Continuing the red, white and blue theme for July, I made this LO on the 4th.  I found a goofy picture of my daughter posing in a space suit from a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.  How convenient  that she was holding the flag for my 4th of July LO!

I made this LO for the monthly sketch challenge at Scraps of Darkness, using the June kit, "Firecracker."  Here is the sketch:

And here is my version:

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look!
