Giving Myself Butterflies

WARNING: this post is completely without SNARK!

Happy Saturday!  I love being in the middle of my weekend! It's even better when we have a new challenge to post at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers. :)  Challenge 51: T is for Technique.
You can choose whatever technique is your favorite, or you can combine techniques.

I made many, many messes for this challenge.  I chose to do a watercolor technique with Distress Ink.  I combined this with cutting half of the card front away, leaving half of the butterflies as the new opening edge of my cards.

I colored my stamps with Distress Markers, misted the stamp with water and then stamped the card. On the card with the single butterfly, I also misted the paper so that the ink would spread further out and it gave a blurrier effect.  The single butterfly was just a blob without definition, so I stamped it again with black ink after it was dry.

I used the matching dies to cut half of the butterflies out.  The only trick to this technique is that you stop your die cutter half way through, as I did in the multiple butterfly card.  When I repeated this technique with the single butterfly card, I sandwiched my paper and die so that the paper and half the die were hanging out of the cutting platform.  The second method produced a much cleaner cut.

Wanna play along and join the sisterhood?? Of course you do...here are the deets you need to know:  You have until 11:55 pm (EST) on Friday February 5 to upload your project  .

Very clever design Lee, beautiful use of the colours too. The large butterfly is very dramatic, I like it a lot. Enjoy the weekend sweetie!

Love and hugs

Ohhhh your butterflies are so beautiful! I never think to use my distress markers like that, what an awesome idea!

These cards are beautiful! If I'd made a blobby butterfly, I would have had a little ceremony and turfed it. Genius to define him by restamping in black! I will of course never remember to do that. And the triple butterflies needed no help, they're lovely as they are.

Beautiful! I just *know* if I tried that technique, though, I'd turn the handle too far and chop out my butterflies completely!

WOWZERS! I am in total AWE of your cutting machine manipulation ability!! like Jane said, I'd cut them off, cut them up or cut too little, and be standing there in a pile of beautifully stamped paper scraps.... STEAMING! SMILE Your watercolour technique is fantastic and I especially love the double stamped butterfly... And thanks for the tip - To wait until it dries before stamping the second time - who knew?!? grin

Both cards are equally fabulous! Love that you cut only around half the images. I'd totally screw that up!
