Simple Sketches #4

Hello and good morning. Today I am here (I am always here, where are you?) with the newest sketch from Simple Sketches.  Our lovely Melissa has designed us another great sketch.  

Here is my take:

I can explain this.  I told the Simple Sketches crew that I had Halloween brain.  My kids are getting older.  Mostly this is a good thing, but I realized that it's half way through September and they haven't asked to go to the Halloween store.  They have no interest in trick or treating.  I offered to buy costumes so they can sit on the front porch and hand out candy (as long as it's not snowing).  They are not interested.  I almost felt like crying.  

Maybe it's that Halloween is my favorite holiday.  Halloween is fantasy and magic and fun and chocolate all in one night.  What's not to love?

Maybe I have to face that this year they don't want to dress up.  Last year was a fluke and they wore complimentary costumes.  This might not be a bad thing.  Have you seen the costumes they offer women?  I don't want my daughter in those!  How about this costume?

About the card:

I don't know if London is rainy, but I decided to use this image and sentiment from for my main image.  I thought she looked like she could be in London.  The stamp is from the Uptown Girls line at Stamping Bella.  I colored her with Prismacolor pencils, and I found my coloring skills to be rusty!  The rain drops were made with a Prima stencil and Art Anthology paint. The London back ground was from hfcSupplies on Etsy and I placed it on computer patterned paper freebie from 7 Dots Studio from their "Messy Head" line.

Memorabilia

I have finished my first lay out as a Guest Designer with Scraps of Darkness!  I used their September kit, "The Black Album," and I think it is one of the greatest kits ever!  I love using black and white and papers that feature typography and this kit makes me one happy lady! 

My LO is for the monthly sketch challenge at Scraps of Darkness.  The September sketch was designed by Suepup.

Sketch Challenge at About a Boy

The mid-month challenge at About A Boy is to make a project based on this sketch:

I chose my dad as my guy for this challenge.  I have been thinking about him constantly because of his recent health concerns.  This is his senior picture, taken in 1966 and he is 17 years old.  This LO is clean and simple, which is not my usual style.  I wanted the focus to be on him.

Punky Scraps Challenge # 67 September

September's inspiration is this wonderful poster.

There are so many things to be inspired by on this poster.  The deep shadows, the bird, the white lettering with the different fonts!  The Punky twist is for you to add texture to your creation. Nat says,  "Experiment using Gesso, stencils, glossy accents, crackle paints, modelling paste, sequins.....any texture you can think of. Show us your skills!"

I decided to make a whimsical tag.  I used birds, a cupcake, and a tea cup.  For texture I used gesso, modeling paste, glossy accents, diamond dust, corrugated cardboard, star beads, braided fiber, UTEE (which I cracked) and feathers.   Here are some close-ups of the textures.

Sketch 2 at Simple Sketches: Smiles Begin With You

Sketch 2 is up over at Simple Sketches!  The sketch is for a multi-picture LO, with some stitching.

I realized that I rarely do multi-picture LOs anymore.  And I don't get my sewing machine out very often.  I happened to have the machine out this day, so I used it!  You probably won't see that happen for another year!

Drunken Stampers Challenge 140: Buttons

It's time to pull out your stash of buttons!  This week's challenge is to simply use a button or buttons.  

Easy peasy, jump in and play!

Here is my card with buttons.  I used many buttons.  I found this piece of lace with dangly buttons and thought it was too cute to leave at the store. I started with a sewing pattern as the back ground of the card, adding dress form stamps (they are there) and a die cut dress form.
